New South Wales.— The following items of New South Wales News are taken from the Argus; —“ A Loan Bill for nearly £2,500,000 was passed by Parliament, which gives power to the Treasurer to issue inscribed stock or debentures in the colony on London for the whole or part of the amount at 4 per cent. There is already authority to borrow to the extent of a million unexhausted. The Government having withdrawn their additional loan estimates and the Loans to Municipalities Bill, Parliament was prorogued by the Governor on August 22nd until October 3rd. In his speech Sir Hercules Robinson stated that steps had been taken to carry out the recommendations of the Defence Commission, and a second battery of permanent artillery would be formed immediately. More liberal immigration regulations would be devised and brought into operation with as little delay as possible. The speech also referred to the vigorous extension of railways, and stated that the revenue at the present time was £50,000 in excess of the corresponding period of last year. The Land Act Amendment Bill 1875, had been found to work well, and the area of land conditionally purchased during the year it had been in force was in excess of the two preceding years. The principal sources of increased revenue were Crown lands, railways, and postal and telegraphic receipts. From the first-named item nearly £750,000 ot the public debt had this year been extinguished, and large amounts expended for public works and improving the moans of ' internal communication. The report of the Commissioner of Railways shows that the cost of the lines open, including rolling stock, machinery, workshops, &c, is a little over £7,0^0,000, or an average of £16,500 per mile. The earnings leave a profit of £4 7s lid per cent on the capital expended. The Sydney University having now a sufficient number of undergraduates to entitle it to Parliamentary representation, the Governor has issued a writ for the election of a member,"
