The lot having been got well together the signal was given, and Duke took the lead to a good start, having A. T. as his immediate companion, but at the end of the straight run Chevalier went to the front, followed by Nightshade. Rataplan at this time was running well in the centre of the ruck, four lengths from Irish Stew and Pj iam, both of whom were well forward. Passing the stand Speculation held a slight advantage with Chevalier, Rataplan, and Irish Stew, but upon reaching Cutts’ turn Nemesis began to show out at the back of the course. Chevalier was again to the fore, with Nemesis second, and Irish Stew dose up, Speculation and Chevalier at this time had run themselves out, and were both beaten. At the home turn, Rataplan, Nemesis, Irish Stew, Priam, and Nightshade «vere together, but Nemesis entered the straight run in front of Rataplan, Irish Stew a close third, and struggling gamely. There was a great race home, which resulted in Nemesis winning by a bare half length from Rataplan, Irish Stew third, then Nightshade, A.T., Beadsman, Misa Kingston, and Priam in the order named, Time, 3min 33sec 8-10ths.
