HEATHCOTE ROWING CLUB.
The annual general meeting of the Heathcote Bowing Club was held at the Wharf Hotel, Woolston, on Monday last. There was a very good attendance, Mr H. A. Bamford occupying the chair. The hon sec read the annual report of the committee as follows : “Your committee cannot present so satisfactory a report to the meeting this evening as they would wish. The whole of the available funds over and above actual working expenses hsve been required for the re-erection of the boat house, which was blown down by a gale during the winter of 1875, and repairs to the boats, which were very seriously injured by the same accident. Tour committee have been thus unable to carry out the instructions of the club and procure more boats. The club crews competed at the Heathcote and Kaiapoi regattas with a fair amount of success, the junior crews especially distinguishing themselves. The Heathcote, our principal racing fouroar, was unfortunately injured in bringing her home from the Kaiapoi Kegattq and has not yet been repaired. Although the club is free from debt, its position is anything but satisfactory, as a considerable sum will be required in order to put the club property in thorough repair and procure the necessary boats to carry on with. Your committee would strongly urge upon the members the necessity of great exertion during the coming season to enable us to overcome the many casualties which the club has sustained. The prizes presented by our president BCoster, Esq) have not been competed for on account of the boat having been damaged in the transit from the Kaiapoi Regatta. Your committee regret that the club has sustained a heavy loss in the death of Mr H. Nanki▼ell, one of the most promising junior oars, a powerful, plucky, and thoroughly reliable stroke, who, by his genial manners and steady conduct, had won the respect of all. This is the heaviest loss which the club has ever sustained.” The hon treasurer read a statement of accounts, shewing a credit balance of £l6 Is 4d. The outstanding liabilities were stated as being £4 18s. The reports were received and adopted. The custodian made a verbal report as to the condition of the club property. A long discussion took place on the proposition to wind up the club, which, however, met with no support, The election of officers for the ensuing season was then proceeded with, as follows . —President, Mr J. L. Coster; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Montgomery, J, T. Fisher, A. Duncan ; commodore, Mr F, Pavitt; vicecommodore and hon secretary, Mr J. W, Davis ; hon treasurer, Mr H. A. Bamford ; custodian, Mr J. Scott; committee, Messrs J. H. Hopkins, W. G. Shepheard, R. Nankivell, E, Davis, S. Stuckey. It was decided to send to England for a four-oared racing boat. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the proceedings.
