AMUSEMENTS.

DE MURSKA CONCERTS. The third concert of the operatic series given by Mdlle de Murska took place last evening at the Music Hall, and was well attended. The entertainment throughout was of the most enjoyable description, and the audience were most prolific in their applause at the termination of each selection. After a well executed overture by the band, Signor Susini gave the air ‘ ‘ Matrimonio” in excellent style; this was followed by a piano solo by Mr Hadley, which went very well indeed. Then followed that beautiful and thrilling scena from Norma “ Casta Diva,” by Mdlle de Murska. We need scarcely say that this beautiful piece of vocalisation was a success, as in the hands of such an accomplished artist as this lady, it could not fail to be otherwise. The brilliant and extremely difficult passages with which it abounds were given in a truly artistic and pleasing style, and with great precision and truthfulness, and on its conclusion the fair songstress was greeted with an overwhelming ovation. After a capitally-sung aria, “La mia Letizia,” from “Lombardi,” by Signor Rosnati, and a splendidly-executed violin solo by Maestro Strauss Ilia from “Traviata,” Mdlle de Murska sang most beautifully that simple but ever welcome little air, “I dreamt that 1 dwelt in marble halls,” in a manner which evoked warm demonstrations of applause, to which the singer responded by giving in admirable stylo and execution that quaint and lively Scotch ballad “ Cornin’ through the rye,” receiving another outburst of enthusiasm at its termination. In the second part the grand duo, “Venti Scudi,” by Signori Rosnati and Susini, was a grand success, and was given in a manner deserving of all the praise awarded by the audience. The imposing “Miserere” scene, from “II Trovatore,” in costume, succeeded, and this was indeed a great treat. The scope which is given for both acting and singing during the enactment of the scene was made the most of in the hands of Mdlle de Murska, and was carried through in such a manner as showed that not only as a singer, but as an actress also, this lady stands on the highest pinnacle of her profession. After another enjoyable solo on the piano by Maestro Strauss 111 a, which was reffiemanded, and a romanza by Signor Rosnati, also loudly cheered, the evening’s programme was concluded with that laughable comic duo from Crispiuo e la Comare, ” by Mdlle de Murska and Signor Susini, which we need hardly say was a great success. The company appear again on Thursday night, when Mdlle de Murska will sing for the first time in New Zealand Mozart’s grand ariaj “Gli Angui d Inferno,” Giorza’s ‘lovely waltz, “Per Sempre,” and take part in the grand laughing trio with Signori Rosnati and Susini. LYDIA HOWARDE TROUPE. This company gave an entertainment at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Lyttelton, last evening, when their efforts to please drew a crowded house. The programme was well rendered, and the enthusiasm with which the various members of the troupe were received testified . how thoroughly the audience appreciated the performance. The company appear at the Music Hall this evening, when “FraDiavolo” and “The Swiss Swains” will be produced ; at Lyttelton again Thursday evening, in “Lucia.” On Friday the company intend giving our Kaiapoi friends a treat, when they will perform “Chilperic” and “ The Waterman,” at Monk’s Assembly Rooms, which we have no doubt will be crowded. On Saturday night the latest, novelty, “The Three Muskedears,” will be produced for the first time at the Music: Hall, whilst “ Girolle-Grirotla” is inactive preparation.
