RE-CAPTURE OF TURNER.

Information has reached town that Turner was captured by Constable Haldane this morning at Kaiapoi. It was known that he had been seen on Wednesday making in that direction, dressed the same as when he last appeared before the Court in Christchurch, and it was stated that a letter had been received by an official here from him, dated 28th August, and bearing the Christchurch Post office mark of 29th, saying that his attempted escape was owing to the hardship he felt at being exposed in the Magistrate’s Court to public gaze. He was traced on the previous evening by Trooper Cartman to Ghainey’a. Subsequently, Turner was seen in the flax, and ci casing the railway bridge. During the evening the police heard of him at various places, and five of them, including Inspector Feast and Sergeant Willis, were scouring the distiictall night. Turner had his tea at a house in f'nayd street, and sent a boy to Mr Blacl• well’s store for a pair of boots. He made his way to Clothiers’ Farm and slept behind a sta n k. This morning he had breakfast at Clothier’s house, at which time a boy informed Constable Haldane he was there. When Constable Haldane arrived Turner was slipping out through the orchard. The constable gave chase in splendid style. Turner also made off over a paddock, but Haldane getting near called on Turner to stand or he would shoot. The constable had not a revolver, but Turner bailed up, and was handcuffed and brought into Kaiapoi and conveyed by Inspector Feast by 2 p.m. train to Christchurch. Turner’s swag contained a fair stock of provisions. Since his capture he appears to think he would have got well away but for an ulcer on his leg w.bioh began to trouble him,
