THE BARQUE WANLOCK. This fine barque arrived yesterday morning, and was berthed at the Gladstone Pier, where she will at once commence loading for London. She is a very handsome vessel of 745 tons register, and is commanded by Captain Tilly, who has visited New Zealand often, having commanded the City of Dnnedin, E. P. Bouverie, Christian McAusland, and Invercargill. The Wanlock is an iron barque, and Is quite new, this being her first trip ; built by the London and Glasgow Engineering and Iron Ship Building Company, and launched in December last from their yards at Govan on the Clyde, the Wanlock, like most Glasgow ships, is a good model, and looks as if she could go through it. She was chartered by the N.Z.S. Co, and took a large cargo to Auckland in splendid order, and now comes down to be loaded for London. Like the company’s iron vessels she has painted ports. She is intended simply for a cargo ship, her passenger accommodation being very limited. . ~ . Captain Tilly reports leaving Auckland on August 3rd, with a S.W. wind, and which lasted till the following day, when the ship was off the East Cape ; it then lulled for a time, after which it backed round to the S.W. again, and blew hard for two days. On the Bth a light N.W. breeze sprang up, and brought the ship abreast of Cape Palliser, and thence to the Kaikoras. off which the ship arrived on Friday 11th, light westerly and variables prevailed. A strong southerly gale blewon Saturday and Sunday, and on Monday found the ship had drifted hack within a few miles of Cape Palliser. From Tuesday till Thursday were beating against light baffling winds, but on Thursday morning a fresh northerly breeze sprang up, lasting till arrival as above. The Wanlock will commence loading at once. Her managing owner is Captain Bramble of London.
