CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, August 14. (Before Dr Back, and 0. R. Blakiston, Esq, J.P.s) Larceny from a Dwelling. —William Cody was charged with stealing a coat, valued at £4 10s, from the hall of the Clarendon Hotel. The coat had been hung on a peg in the hall the previous night by Mr Davison, a lodger at the hotel, and next morning it was missing. Accused had attempted to pawn the coat at Stewart’s pawn shop, and had afterwards received 5s on it from Mr Tetley, in High street. Sentenced to four months’ imprisonment with hard labor. Drunk and Resisting the Police Joseph Illingworth, for this offence was fined 20s. Drunk and Disorderly. —Hugh Montgomery, arrested for drunkenness, was fined 10s. Larceny of a Pair of Boots. —James Veitch, who had been arrested on a telegram, on the charge of stealing a pair of boots at Ashburton, was remanded until Wednesday, to be brought up at Ashburton. LYTTELTO.N". Monday, August 14. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M,) Assault. William Johnson accused Henry Goody, a seaman on board the Australian Sovereign, with assaulting him on the 11th instant. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for the defence. The Bench dismissed the case; complainant, a boy belonging to the vessel, having neglected his work, and been very impertinent, Defendant to pay costs. Drunkenness and Indecency. —L. Bequet and John Croome, for this offence, were fined 5s and 10s respectively.
