AMUSEMENTS.
THE LYDIA HOWARDS TROUPE. The Music Hall was filled to overflowing on Saturday night, when that ever-popular and clever artiste Miss Jennie Nye took her benefit, showing most unmistakably the estimation in which this lady is held by her Christchurch friends. The first piece produced was “ The Daughter of the Regiment,” in which Miss Nye sustained the part of Josephine, playing the part with great spirit and energy, while Miss Navaro made a most charming and sprightly Duchess, showing her appreciation of the character she was enacting. We think a great improvement might have been made in several of the other parts ; a want of careful study and conception of the anther's meaning being very apparent. “ The Day after the Wedding” concluded the evening’s entertainment, Between the pieces Mr Towle sang “ Come into the garden, Maude,” very nicely, and Mr Cary gave “ Wrecked and Saved” in splendid form, and was encored, when he responded with “Kit the Cobbler.” The same programme will be repeated this evening, being again for the benefit of Miss Nye; and to-morrow evening the burlesque of “ The White Oat” will be produced for the first time.
