CHRISTCHUROH. Monday, July 31. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R..M.) Drunk and Disorderly.—Wm. Lambert, for this offence, was fined 10s. An inebriate, who appeared for the first time, and had been found en the premises of Mr G. Green was discharged with a caution. Vagrancy.—Mary MeCauley, an old offender, charged with having no lawful visible means of support, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labor. Ah Sing, a Chinaman, was brought up on remand charged with being found lying out in a paddock, and having no means of support. A Ting, called by the police, said the countrymen of accused intended sending him to his friends at Dunedin. Accused was discharged on that understanding. LYTTELTON. Monday, July 31. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness.—Hans Christian, arrested by Constable Mcintosh, was fined 10s, or in default 48 hours. Larceny.—William Allen was charged by a man named W. MeLeod with having stolen from him a suit of oilskins. Constable Mcintosh gave evidence to the effect that on Saturday last he arrested accused aboard the ship Wairoa, and charged him with the above offence. Wm McLcod stated he was a seaman, and had b?en living at the Victoria Dining Rooms, in Oxford street. He went there on Friday with a bag of clothes and a suit of oilskins, and left them there, having just arrived from Dunedin. Shortly after he missed the oilskins, and was told by a man named Stave that a man had taken them away. He then gave information to the police, and going on board the ship Wairoa with the constables found his oilskins in the main rigging. He identified them as his property. Jonas O. Stave said he was staying at the Victoria Dining Rooms ; he saw both prosecutor and prisoner there on Saturday, and the latter and another man took away a bag and some oilskins. James Fergusson sworn, said —That on Saturday he assisted accused to carry his bag of clothes down to the boat; accused was too drunk to carry it himself ; the suit of oilskins was with the box, The Bench gave accused the benefit of the doubt, and dismissed the case, Desertion. William Mcintosh was charged with having deserted from the ship City of Dunedin. Constable Livingstone stated he had arrested prisoner at the Port Chalmers Railway Station on this charge. At the request of the police, prisoner was remanded till Tuesday, at 11 a.m, in order that the captain of the City of Dunedin might be in attendance.
