AMUSEMENTS.

THE LYDIA HOWARDE TROUPE The attendance last evening at the Musi Hall was exceedingly good, notwithstandin; the wretched weather that prevailed Farnie's new sensation, " Nemesis," wj produced for the first time, and was decided success. The piece itself is abov the general average of burlesques, both in musical as well as in a dramatic point < view, and contains some of the best mus which the company has hitherto treated l with. Miss Howarde, who was in splend voice, played the part of Rosalie in i artistic and pleasing manner; indeed, it mj safely be said that last evening this lac eclipsed all her former endeavours to pleas a fact which the audience were not loth acknowledge. In the duet with Calino, sparkling melody, "Star upon Star," w capitally rendered, and elicited loud ai enthusiastic applause from the audienee. T gem of the evening, however, was that bea tiful little tnorceaux, "Bid me discourse In this, Miss Howarde perfectly took t house by storm, her rendering of the mus with its numerous trills and cadences, bei most artistically and cleverly given, obtai ing for her a most ardent and genuine enco to which she responded. Miss Nye, Zidore, seemed quite at home in the pa playing with great taste and care, whilst 1 singing of "Her bright smile haunts i still" was re-demanded by the audience, was also her cleverly-executed dancing, ir dental to the part. Miss Navaro, as Pralii also played and looked most charmh going fully into the spirit of jthe part she -v enacting, whilst her singing was, as is us: with this lady, really first-class; indeed is a pity she had not more to do in the ■« of charming her musical admirers. M Ashton, as the spinster lady of many su mers, played with great care and vivaci showing her thorough conception of the p she was playing. Messrs Walter Hill i Power were both so thoroughly at home their respective parts that we must div the honours equally with them. The ot characters were Avell pourtrayed by other members of the company. Mr Tov as Calino, played and sang with much tas although he was rather nervous in rendering of some of his passages, with inclination to hurry the dialogue, apart from thi3 he was a great Buccess, will prove a powerful acquisition to company. The scenery was beautifully up, and great praise is due to Messsrs Br and Mason for the way in which t mounted the piece. The orchestra, wl has been augmented, deserve every credit the manner in which they played the companiments, but at the same time tl was an evident desire on the part of conductor to hurry or overreach the sir during the rendering of the music. A was, however, only the first productioi the piece, we must not be too critical, hope to sea this and the other little def remedied during its repetition, as we e-ure " Nemesis" is bound to have a long prosperous career. The same prograr will be repeated this evening, and will doubt draw a crowded house, as it deeeiYeß,
