Cr Jones gave notice that he would move —“ That the Mayor’s name be engraved as Mayor for 1875 6 on one of the buttresses of the Hereford street bridge.” The Mayor fixed to day for hearing objections to the rates at ten o’clock. Any objections not allowed would be heard before the Resident Magistrate. He might say there were not a quarter of the number of objections this year that there were last. Letter from the clerk of the Spreydon Road Board on the subject of channelling the south side of the South belt. The town clerk was instructed to refer the Spreydon Road Board to the Council’s former letter on the subject. The report of the file brigade for the past quarter was read and passed. Letter from the surveyor of the Spreydon Road Board, asking permission to place culverts in the side channel on the South town belt at Durham street, and also asking when the Council, would cause the roadway across the belt and Durham street to be .gravelled on condition that the Board paid its proportion. In reference to the first part of the letter, the matter was referred to the Drainage Board, and the second part was referred to the works committee.

It was resolved—“ That the footpaths on the East town belt should be made 15ft wide, and that all shrubs should be removed but not the trees.”

Letter from Mr Blakiston, asking that a emu of £6 2s 6d, paid by him towards channelling and kerbing Montreal street, should be refunded, as it had been deeded that owners of property should mt now contribute directly towards the cost of the same.

It was resolved that the Council could not accede to the request. Letter from the town clerk of Adelaide, requesting to know the amount of the bonded debt of the Corporation, and the rate of interest on the same.

Letter from Sir Cracroft Wilson, thanking the Council for the offer of the boring rods, but slating that he had not yet received them. The town clerk stated that they were now in the possession of Captain Parker, who declined to give them up till he had done with them. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Turner —" That the town clerk should write to Captain Parker, stating that unless the rods were at once returned, proceedings would be taken against him for the recovery of £IOO, their value.” A letter was read from Mr Jamieson in reference to the Council taking over Horatio street. It was resolved that if the inhabitants would pay the money the Council would make the improvements asked for, but would not take over the street. Cr Jones brought forward his motion in reference to the Mayor’s name being placed upon the Hereford bridge. Cr Ick objected to the motion. He thought it was very bad taste for any councillor to bring forward such a motion. Cr Hawkes thought the Mayor would himself object to have his name upon such an abortion as the Hereford street bridge. After some discussion the motion was withdrawn.

Cr Gapes moved—“ That the clerk be instructed to write, calling the attention of the Provincial Government to the unsightly and dangerous state of the ground in front of the Supreme Court between Armagh street and Chester streets ; also the footpath in Chester street.” Agreed to. Theinspectorof nuisances reported that the fishmen standing in Cashel street and Colombo street were a great nuisance. It was resolved that the bye-law should be enforced. The Council then adjourned.
