Wellington, May 3. Tlie A 'em Zealand I'imes says that Mr Fitzherbert, after consulting his political friends, has signified his willingness to accept the position of Speaker, as he feels that it has been offered him in a manner alike honourable to himself and the Government. The Agent-General reports in his despatches, received yesterday, that no further immigrants from the Continent will be despatched, excepting in some few cases where it is necessary to fulfil existing engagements. Nelson, May 3. In the Supreme Court yesterday, the case of Millar, late Provincial Engineer, who was charged with obtaining money under false pretences, lasted all day and until 9 o’clock at night, when the jury, after a very few minutes consideration, returned a verdict of “Not Guilty.” Poet Chalmers, May 3. Sailed—The ship May Queen, with a cargo of wool, wheat, and tallow, value £70,755.
