The fine ship Himalaya. Captain Grant, got underweigh at 7.30 a m. on Thursday morning, and at 8 a.m. v/as clear of the Heads. The strong S.W. wind favored her, and at ll a.m. she was hull down. From the favorable start we anticipate a fair passage for Captain Grant. ■j he s.s Wanganui, Captain Christian, did not arrive in Akaroa till 930 on Thursday night. As she left Lyttelton on Wednesday, at 5 p in, considerable anxiety was felt. It appears from the report of the Albion that she ran in to Lc lion’s Bay for shelter. The smart biig Albion reports leaving Port Chalmers on Wednesday, at 3 p in, and experienetd strong S.W. wind* till arrival oil Peninsula at 6 a.m. following morning; at 10 a.m. arrived oil the Heads at Lyttelton, thus having made the run in nineteen hours, and being only fi’teen hours to the Long Look Out. Unfortunately it was calm all day Thursday, and it was midnight when a N.E breeze sprang up, and carried the Albion to her anchorage uIV the town, which was reached at 2.30 a.m. on Friday. Sighted ti 3 s.s. Wanganui lying In Le lion’s Bay for shelter on Thursday morning atß o’clock, . , The brigantine Oceola wa- signalled on Ihnrsda\ night, and anchored oil' the oreakwateron Friday morning. The Oci ola is from Nova Scotia, and was built at a place called Canning in October la-1, ai)d is classed as double A 1 for seven >oars. Durini' thiwher first voyage she has proved herself not only a clipper as regards sailing qualities, but also a strong, staunch, serviceable vessel. The commander, Captain Matheson, formerly well known here as captain of the brigantine Ryno, is part owner. Captain McKenzie, of Auckland, having also an interest in the vessel. Her cargo of lumber, hardware, and oars is for this port and Auckland, where the vessel will proceed after having dis''’■•'•ged her lumber here. She left ou December f ith .ui Sarah and Mary left Hokitika on Friday week, and arrived in harbor on Saturday afternoon. The weather experienced during the trip was rough, the sea during the greater portion of the passage being very high. The Star of the Mersey cleared on Saturday, and was hauled out into the stream. The Kangitikei finished discharging her railway Iron on Saturday, and is filling up rapidly. SAILING OF TUB JESSIE OSBORNE. This splendid vessel cleared on Thursday last with a cargo of grain valued at £14,000, and only waited for a fair wind to proceed to sea. On Saturday there being no sign of a breeze out. Captain Falkner, her commander, determined to obtain the aid of the s.s. Akaroa to tow her out beyond the heads. Accordingly at 9.30 pm the smart little steamer took, her iu tow, and steamed for the heads at a rate of five knots, clearing the Godley Point at 10 30 p.m. A north-easterly course was then steered for abouttive miles, and at 11.30 the warning whistle was sounded aboard the Akaroa to give notice to Captain Falkner’s friends, who had gone to give him a last farewell, that it was time to return. The line was cast off, and the good ship was left with her head pointing E N.E, with topgallant sails set. The short time and the ease with which this large ship was towed speaks well for the Akaroa’s power as a Ing. We wish Captain Falkner, who was muck liked by all who met him, a speedy passage home. Pilot Reed took the ship out.
