THE OPERA.

[By Rumi-Quaver.] Flotow's opera of “Martha” was repeated on Saturday evening to a capital house and a very appreciative audience, all the little points being well taken up. Madame Simonson’s Lady Harriett, good as it was on Thursday evening, on Saturday night, to my mind, she seemed to go more thoroughly into the naivftte and liveliness of the part; making it a thorough success. She sang all through the opera capitally, and was especially successful in “The Last Rose of Summer,” which 1 was glad to see was appreciated by the audience as it deserved. She also sang well in the Notturno at the end of the second act, and also in the quartette concluding the third act. 1 think “ Martha” would woll stand repetition. M iss Lambert, as Haney, was exceedingly good, entering so thoroughly into the spirit of the part as to take tbc audience completely with her. Her acting and singing was marked with a freshness and “go” (I can find no word so expressive as this), that materially aided Madame Simonsen’s efforts to make the opera a success. Signor Morlcy sang well, especially that beautiful air “ Ah, so fair,” which was enthusiastically demanded, and Mr Bennington, who, I am glad to notice has deservedly made himself a favorite with the audience, sang the music of Plunkett well. Messrs Leopold, Darbyshirc, Markham, and Master Leopold contributed largely to the fun of the fair scene, and Mr B. Lcvison was appropriately dignified as the Major. The choruses were well taken, and a word of praise is due to the very efficient orchestra for the way they discharged their duty.
