SUPREME COURT.
CRIMINAL SITTINGS. This Day. (Before his Honor Mr Justice Johnston.) The Court re-opened at 10 a.m. FORGERY AND UTTERING. Philip Bourgeois was indicted for having forged and uttered a certain bill of exchance to one Michael Murphy, and also with having forged an endorsement of the same in the name of one Berg. The prisoner, who was undefended, pleaded " Not Guilty."
A mixed jury, in accordance with pri Boner's request, was empannelled to try the case.
The facts of the case, as detailed in the evidence, was as follows : —Bourgeois obtained money from Murphy on a bill pur porting to bear the endorsement of Berg, which afterwards turned out to be a forgery Mr Duncan prosecuted on behalf of the Crown, and led evidence in support of the indictment.
The jury, after a short consultation, returned a verdict of " Guilty." His Honor sentenced the prisoner to three years' imprisonment with hard labour. This concluded the business, and the Court adjourned sine die.
