EIGHTEEN THOUSAND SOVEREIGNS STOLEN.

The Anglo- 'Brazilian Times says that the 18,000 sovereigns belonging to the Governm< nt on board the Brazilian packet Arinos, lost at Castilhos, on the Uruguayan coast, were taken by a band of armed men from the house of the justice of the peace in which the captain had deposited them for safety and carried off. The robbers belonged to a so-called Government levy. The robbery was effected on the 9tlx by Captain Lucio la Puentes and Lieutenant Manoel Romero, at the head of some men. On the 14th, however, Lieutenant Romero voluntarily presented himself and delivered to the captain of the Arinos two of the boxes, containing 4,367 sovereigns. Later on Puentos was killed by a Government force sent after him, but the remainder of the money was not recovered.
