CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, March 28. (Before G. L, Mellish, Esq.) Drunkenness. —Alexander Wright, who was also charged with indecency, was fined 20s. Larceny as a Bailee.— John Hunt, charged with larceny as a bailee of a watch, the property of Simon Lee, was remanded until Monday. William Ellis was charged with larceny as a bailee of £lO, the money of Le Fleming and others. Prisoner was arrested yesterday afternoon in the Borough Hotel by Acting-sergeant Beck. He first denied that he was the person named in the warrant, but afterwards at the watch-house he gave his name as William Ellis. He was remanded to Eangiora. Disturbing the Peace in a Licensed House. —Thomas Richards, for this offence at the Caversham Hotel, was fined 10s. Larceny. —Alfred James Kent, aged eighteen years, was charged with stealing a waistcoat and a half sovereign, the property of John Bennett, and a quantity of tobacco, the property of a man named Peat. The prisoner, who is a newly-arrived immigrant, had robbed his fellow-immigrants. The waistcoat he had pawned, and the money and tobacco he had used. He was apprehended last night at the theatre by Detective Bettington, and acknowledged having committed the robberies. He was sentenced to one month with hard labor.
