KAIAPOI REGATTA. Thursday, March 23. It is glorious weather. There is a large attendance. The committee is slow in getting the events off. Punt race, distance 2 miles (pulling or sailing, or both) ; only one man allowed in each boat : oval course First prize, £3 ; second prize, model ot ship; third prize, £1 ; entrance, 7s fid. Third prize will only be awarded if six boats start. Skedaddle (J Perrin) 1 Alarm (R. H. Mathews) 2 Vixen (R. Day) 3 Flying Fish (J. Winterbourne) 4 The four went away together from a good line. Skedaddle took the lead, Flying Fish second, Alarm third. Half-a-mile down Skedaddle went to the front of the others, and was rowed, to the end an easy winner. A rowlock of the Ularm broke, and Mathews gave up, but started again coming in second, ten minutes after Skedaddle. AVinterbourne gave up half-way round A 7 ixen was considered to he the only punt. Swimming race, for boys (under eighteen years) ; distance, 220 yards. First prize, £8 ; second prize, fil 10s ; third prize, lf)s, if six compete; entrance, 2s 6d These prizes have been given by Mr T. H. Harrison, late of Kaiapoi. Post entries. There were three entries, J. Preeco won easily ; James Hudson, second. Four - oared Sweepstakes race of £1 each boat, with £8 added; distance about 3 miles. For crews who have not entered in the Champion Four*oared race. Heathcote 1 Tui 2 Champion Four - oared race; d-'stanae about 3 miles ; open to all clubs in the Colony ; course, up stream.
