THE DUNEDIN RACES. {From a correspondent of the Press.') Dunedin, March 11. A large number of people assembled on tbe course this morning, it being anticipated that the great guns from the North would be put in work. Mr Keenan’s Gamecock and Jack Flat were out and home again before six ; the latter had a steady canter, but the Cup horse was not stripped, and merely had walking exercise. Mr Monaghan’s team comprised Templeton, Pungawerewere, Merry Monarch, Elfin King, and steamer. Templeton did no work, and Merry Monarch also was without his usual twomile gallop. The gelding seems more fidgety and fractious every day, Pungawerewere was stripped and sent two miles and a half at a rattling pace. Mr Redwood’s trio, Korari, Amohia, and Guy Fawkes were next on the ground, but were only walked about. The three wore bandages on their fore legs. Rory and King Philip then put in an appearance. The former stripped, and with Batty up went a steady mile and a half. He looks hearty, and goes as strong as ever. King Philip and Right Bower next stripped, and went two miles and a half together a regular docker. They were kept well together all the way, but the King had continually to be pulled back. Mr Coombes’ horse was in a lather when pulled up, but King Philip was none the worse for the spin. Fishhook had two rounds of the tan. He seems a little improved, going freer but not much, and he still makes a peculiar rattling noise through his nostrils loud enough to be plainly heard from the far side of the course. His friends say this is nothing.
