SECOND ELEVEN 0.0.0. v AN ELEVEN U.C.O.C. This return match was commenced on the U.C.C.O. ground last Saturday, and at the close of the afternoon’s play the scores were as follows: —TJ.0,0.0, Ist innings. 66; C. 0.0, Ist innings, 137. For the U.C.C.O, Nalder, 19, and H. Cotterill, 11, were the highest contributors ; the first named made his runs very quickly, and hit hard to all parts of the field, Whilst Cotterill played a steady defensive game, and obtained his runs in good style. For the C.C.O. Reeder headed the list with the fine score of 51, and, although his innings was not free from chances, he played well, and deserved the reward obtained ; Fairhurst, 18; and Hislop, 13, were respectively second and third. The former obtained his score by hard hitting, and the latter by patient, steady play, combined with stubborn defence, being at the wickets over an hour for his moderate score. Gray, Turner, Cuff, and B. Cotterill bowled well for their respective sides, and in fielding the U.C.C.O. men worked like horses to save runs, and showed to much better advantage in this department of the game than their opponents, who in instances were sluggish and lazy.
