win. Member’s Plate of 50 soys. 1J miles; Welter weights ; 2 soys each added. Mr P. Campbell’s b g Tommy Dodd, by Bay Middleton, aged ... (Owner) 1 Mr Lunn’s br colt Rob Roy, 5 yrs ... 2 Mr Macauley’s br colt Numa 8 Tommy Dodd and Rob Roy were first away, closely followed by Numa. Passing the stand Bob was leading by two lengths, with Numa second, and Tommy lying back. Going down the hill the pace was very strong, and opposite the stand the same positions were maintained, but rounding the turn into the Btra s ght Numa fell back beaten, and the issue was left to Rob Roy and Tommy. Mr Lunn’s horse ran very gamely, but condition told its tale, and old Tommy collaring him coming up the straight, passed the post a length in front.-; - Flying Handicap—4o sovs. One mile. Mr W. Swanson’s ch g Sir William, 7st 101 b 1 Mr Studholme’s Cloth of Gold, 9st 11b ... 2 Mr J. Cahill’s Lyndon, 7st 21b 3 Hector and No Gentleman also ran.
Sir William and 'Lyndon jumped off with a lead of a clear length, followed by Hector, the Cloth and No Gentleman getting off badly. When they had gone a quarter of a mile, the Cloth improved his position, passing Hector, and joining the leaders. They raced thus to the distance, when Sir William and the Cloth left Lyndon, and finished a good race, Sir William winning by a neck from the Cloth, with Lyndon well up. Time—1m 50sec.
A protest was entered by the rider of the Cloth of Gold for a cross, but disallowed.
