The last month has not been favorable for observation on account of much cloudy weather. The glimpses of the midnight sky that have been had, though interesting, were not so much so as the t»o months last past. We have both Venus and Jupiter as evening stars, the former, on account of her great northern declination, setting in the west soon after the sun; the other rising in the east about ten o'clock. The sun is in the sign Pisces, and will be till the 20th day, when he enters Aries, and we shall have equal day and night. The length of day on the Ist will be 12h 58m, and on the 15th l2h 16m. Both the sun and moon will be eclipsed daring the month, but neither of them visible in New Zealand. The phases of the moon will be—First quarter, 3d 9h ism p.m; full moon, 10d 5h JUm p.m'j last ouarter, IBd Oh 55m p.m ; new moon, aed 7h 12m am; The moon will he nearest to the earth 6d lh a.m; at greatest distance 18d llh a.m, and again nearest 30d 9h p.m. '..■,, Mercury—6d 7h p.m. in descending node; lOd 10b in greatest elongation, 27deg 37m west •, IBd lOh p m. at greatest distance from the sun j same day In conjunction with Saturn, Mercury, odeg 24m south, and on the 24d 8h a.m. in conjunction with the moon, Mercury Odeg 27ni south. Venus—2d 4h a.m. on descending node; 29d3h p.m. in conjunction with the moon, Venus 2deg 34m south; «nd on-the 30d 8h a.m. in conjunction with Mars, Venus ldeg 9m north.
