The Globe. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1875. TELEGRAPHIC NEWS.

(Per Press Agnicy.') Auckland, December 18,

Sales—Fat cattle, 25s to 32s 6d per lOOlbs; inferior sheep, 6s to 9s each ; fat sheep, 3d per lb ; fat lambs, 10s to 13s 6d. The departure of the Colima is again postponed till to-morrow. Wellington, December 16.

Government have received and published a despatch from Sir J. Vogel, in which he impugns certain statements made in a letter from the loan agents to the Colonial Secretary, dated May 13th, and says “ I am of opinion that the conduct of the three agents, that of Dr Feathers ton, in sending to the Government such a letter and enclosures without allowing me to see them, id most unbecoming and detrimental to the

interests of the public service, and I have the honor, formally, to make complaints on the subject.” Sir J. Yogel then goes on to say that owing to the publication of that letter in the colony a wide-spread misunderstanding exists as to his action in London with respect to the deposit of the fourmillion loan with the Hank of New Zealand ; or that the determination so to deposit the loan was arrived at by the agents at the time of the neeociation with Messrs Roths child. The correspondence is too lengthy for a telegram. Government have also received a cable telegram from Sir Julius, slating that he had succeeded in effecting an arrangement with the Bank of England, by which the Bank inscribes and manages New Zealand stock. This will make our bonds current, and give the holder the advantage of obtaining bonds “ to bearer,” and exchanging backward and forward. This arrangement is subject to the approval of the Assembly. Sir Julius left England per the Somersetshire, on November 15th. The Mayoralty election was brought to an end yesterday by the return of Mr Hutchison. Throughout the day all parties worked vigorously, and cabs were kept going from nine o’clock till the close of the poll. Shortly after half.past tour o’clock Mr E. W. Mills, the returning officer, announced the return to be as follows : Thorndon. Lambton Te Aro. Quay, Total Gisborne... 175 ... 220 ... 191 ... 586 Hutchison 124 ... 205 ... 329 ... 658 Majority for Hutchison ... 72 Mr Pearce and Mr Hunter addressed the Wellington electors last night. They both strongly opposed separation, and will support secular education. They said they did not attempt to get a third member for Wellington, as it would have been useless, but they had assisted in getting four additional members for the North Island, A vote of thanks to each was passed unanimously. HUTT BACES. Hutt, December 18. Flying Handicap, of 50 sovs. Six furlongs. Fourteen entries. Fishhook ... 1 Templeton 2 Daniel O’Rourke ... ... ... 3 Pungawerewere 0 Voltarine ... ... ... .. 0 Hercules 0 Firetail ... ... 0 Banker ... 0 Six of the fourteen original entries were scratched. After considerable difficulty 'an excellent start was effected, all the eight getting away in a cluster, and putting their best speed on. From the first, the racing was between Daniel O’Rourke, Templeton, and Fishhook. A splendid race ensued on the run home between these three ; Fishhook, however, kept the lead and won by half a length, Templeton gaining upon him every stride, Daniel third, Pungawerewere fourth, Vol tarine fifth, Hercules sixth, Firetail and Banker beaten off. HACK RACE. McMaster’s Dick Turpin ... 1 Parker’s Camilla 2 Edward’s Lurline 0 Elliott’s Zingara 0 Rugeley’s Chips 0 For about half a mile there was a very good race, after that Dick had it all his own way, pulling up easily a few strides past the stand; Camilla second. Provincial Handicap, 50 sovs; four entries. Flora M ‘Donald 1 Premier 2 Princess Mary ... 3 Phoenix (Ist 121bs over) ... 4 This was the best contested race of the day, and had the most exciting finish. Princess Mary took the lead, but all were in a cluster for the first quarter of a mile, Premier then took the lead from Princess Mary. About half way round Phoenix dropped behind, he was carrying Ist I2lbs over weight. Flora M‘Donald then challenged Premier for the first place and Princess Mary also. Then it became exciting to the finish the horses whipping hard and all were within a length of each other. A dozen lengths from home Flora M‘Donald answered gamely to the whip and collared Premier before reaching the stand, beating him by a neck. Princess Mary running home neck and neck with Premier for second place. The Open Handicap, of 75 sovs. One mile and a quarter. Fourteen entries. Templeton, Bst 1 Princess Mary ... ... ... 2 Pungawerewere ... ... ... 0 Hercules ... 0 Weights in this race were not declared till just before the race came off, and speculation was pretty brisk, but there were long faces when it was known that all Redwood’s horses were scratched. Out of the fourteen entries only four came to the scratch. It was understood that Pungawerewere was to win if possible ; she took the lead and kept it the greater part of the way, closely accompanied by Princess Mary, Templeton lying third and Hercules fourth, apparently too sulky to run his best. Upon approach ing the run home Templeton went to the front in spite of the utmost efforts of his jockey to pull him, and then commenced a spectacle not often seen upon a racecourse, Templeton’s jockeypullingandsawing at him, and lying back on his haunches in his endeavour to pull the horse in order to allow Pungawerewere to win, but in vain, Templeton would go to the front, and won in spite of all his rider could do; Princess Mary second, Hercules last.
