RICCARTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on December 4th, at the office, Cashel street West. Present—Messrs Nunweek, Gregg, Patterson, and Stanley. In the absence of the chairman, Mr Patterson was voted to preside, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Church Steward respecting the lease of section No 456, the consideration of which was deferred for a full Board. A letter was reac from Messrs T. and E. Pavitt, offering to supply V.D.L. timber, according to specification enclosed. The Board directed the surveyor to select what would be suitable for works contemplated. A letter was received from the Spreydon Road Board, with account for maintenance of Lincoln road to December Ist, 1875. The Board co- sidered that the amount set down f-'i day work was veiy large, arid would be glad to be furnihed wi h more detailed account. An offer was received from Mr Clan'dge, to form and metal that portion of the Sawyers' Arms road, lately purchased by the Government from Mr Wash bourne. The Board decided to accept the offer, and the surveyor was directed to prepare plan and specification of the work. A letter was i.ieiVrtd from the leropleton Road Board, poii-ung out. the n> ('..-ssity of forming the sides of the coal track from the church to the Racecourse, aud offering to pay one half the cost thereof. The Board admitted the
necessitv of the work, but considered that it should be referred to the new Board, and the surveyor was directed to bring the matter forward at the first meeting thereof. It was resolved to hold the annual meeting of ratepayers on Friday, the 7th January, 187b\ to elect two members in place of Messrs Hall and Patterson who retire by rotation. The surveyor was direi t d to have the bridge over the Styx re p'anked with V.D.L, timber. It was resolved that his Honor the Superintendent be requested to annul the proclamation in reference to the footpath on the north side of the Riccarton road from the south-east corner of rural section No IG3 to the junction of the coal track. In the absence of the chairman, the surveyor reported that by a proclamation in the Government Gazette of the 25th November, 1875, his Honor the Superintendent had convened a meeting, to be held onthe 14th day of December next at Wood's mill, Kiecarton. to nominate a member for the Riccarton district to serve on the Christchurch Drainage Board, ,'it.d the poll, if necessary, on the 20th day of Dneembc ; :».lso that (on the recommendation of the cbaiiman) Mr N. Ellis had been appointed returning officer to conduct such election. The Board directed the collector to take immediate steps to recover the outstanding rates, amounting tp £G Is sd. The pny sheet, amounting to £315 ■U, was examined and passed for payment. It was resolved to hold the next ordinary meeting on Friday, the 31st December, 1875. The Board then adjourned.
