Auckland, November 25
Sir G. Grey convenes a meeting of his constituents for Monday, "to acquaint you with my views on the present state of public affairs in the colony." It is stated that Mr Hall has expressed great willingness on behalf of the mail contractors to reduce the subsidy by more than £SOOO stipulated last session of the New Zealand Parliament, in consideration of the discontinuance of the New Zealand coastal service; but the Sydney Government show a strong indisposition to make any concessions, and would prefer to begin the negotiations over again if the prefent contract is set aside.
Wellington, November 25.
It is understood that Mr T. W. L. Travers' address to the electors of Wellington will appear in the Times to-morrow. His platform will be the same as Mr Gisborne's. There is another candidate also spoken of as likely to come forward next week. An effort will be made to have the Intercolonial Boat Kace, which is to come off hire, rowed in batswing gigs, instead of outriggers, in order to induce as many competitors to enter as possible. Mr R.'M. Buchanan is gazetted clerk of the Resident Magistrate's Court at Temuka, and clerk of the Licensing Court for Geraldine. EtOKITIKA, Nov 25.
