Kaiapoi Parish.—The Primate of New Zealand, Bishop of the diocese, has addressed a letter to the churchwardens of this parish, in reference to the proceedings of the meeting on Monday last, which appear to have been irregular, and appointing the Dean of Christchurch and Mr Josiah Birch to hold a court of enquiry in regard to the alleged innovations of the curate. The meeting on Monday will, therefore, have to simply proceed with the election of a vestryman, and the other matters will be considered by the court of enquiry in due course. Champion Race.—We understand that it is in contemplation to endeavor to get up a champion two mile race of 1000 sovs for the next Metropolitan meeting. The details have not yet been settled upon ; but from the approval the suggestion has met with both from sportsmen and the outside public, we have no doubt that, if energetically taken in hand, the movement will result in a successful issue. The Canterbury Metro politan Meeting has always held a high position in New Zealand sporting, and, with a prize of this value on their programme, the O.J.C. may fairly hope to see not only the sister provinces but the adjoining colonies represented on the convincing ground.

En view of a canvass of the city for subscriptions, and the arrangement of a programme, no time should be lost. As regards 'his latter part we may venture to suggest to the Association the advisableness of issuing their programme as soon as possible, in order that intending competitors may take steps for going into training for the various events,

The programme comprised songs by two ladies (very nicely sung), Messrs J. T. M. Smith, Johnson, and Master Johnson, Mr Thornton gave an amusing recitation on " Scotch words," which elicited loud laughter, Mr Hull recited " The seven ages of woman," and Mr Dawson read an extract from " Handy Andy." Professor Bickerton also exhibited the magic lantern, and some very beautiful dissolving views comprising photographs of celebrated pictures, views in England and America, including the Falls of Niagara and other remarkable spots, and photographs of public buildings and ruins in England, concluding with some splendid chromatropes.
