We give a list in our columns. The ship Lactura will sail for Calcutta In ballast during the week. The Merope will be berthed at the Gladstone pier this morning should the weather permit. The Union Company’s s.s. Beautiful Star, left Dunedin on Thursday, at 4 p.m., arrived at Timaru on Friday, at 4.30 a.m, discharged 50 tons of cargo, loaded 10 tons, and sailed at 5.40 p.m, arriving here at 8.30 a.m. yesterday. She sails to-day for South at 1 p.m. Had westerly winds and fair weather throughout the trip. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s fine ship Waikato returned to port yesterday afternoon, from Wellington. She left that port on Thursday, November 4th, with light northerly winds, but owing to the wind shifting to the S.E. had to anchor off Wellington Heads the same day. She was signalled early yesterday afternoon, but had not brought up when our express left. The s.s. Wellington, Captain Carey, arrived in harbor yesterday afternoon with the Frisco mail onboard; she was off the breakwater at 2.55 p.m, and made fast to the Gladstone pier at 3.10 p.m. As she left Wellington at 11.45 p.m. on Saturday night, the trip from wharf to wharf was made in fifteen hours and twenty-five minutes. Good speed, even for this smart little boat. During her stay in Auckland over £6OOO have been expended on repairs and improvements, which make her equal to new. Among (helmprovements may be mentioned a new boiler, the lengthening of the bridge, &c. A large deckhouse has been erected, in which is a smoking room and captain’s cabin; and her ladies’ cabin is now exceptionally good, and the largest on the coast except the Kingarooma’s. The steamer is now in splendid order. Captain Carey is still in command, and the other officers are the same as formerly, with the exception of the purser, Mr Wilcox, who has been succeeded by Mr McCormack. She brought the Frisco mail, wirch was transhipped from the Taranaki into her at Wellington. She sailed Soutii at 4.30p.m. yesterday, with the Dunedin portion of the mail. The fine brigantine Roderick Dhu arrived in harbor yesterday, and anchored about 3 p.m, Captain Mackenzie reports that he left Kaipara on Tuesday last at noon, and had N. and N.W. to Kaikoras, with thick, dirty, hazy weather. On Friday experienced a S.W. gale, which lasted for twelve hours, and thence light airs and calms to arrival. Signalled the brigantine Trelevan Family, from Foo Chow, with a cargo of tea, bound either here or to Dunedin ; also, sighted the ship Waikato, bound here, off' the heads. The Union Company’s new and powerful s.s. Taupo, Captain Macfarlane, arrived alongside the jfrladfitone Pier (shortly before 3 o’clock yesterday
morning-. She left Onehunga at 11.20 am. on the 2nd, and arrived at New Plymouth at 5.30 a.m. on the 3rd; lelt at 7.45 a.m, and arrived at Nelson whurf at 10 p.m. same night; left at 11.30 a.m. on the 4th; arrived at Picton at 6.30 p.m.; left at 4.50 a.m. on the sth ; arrived at Wellington at 10 a.m.; left at 5.20 p.m. on the 6th, arriving as above. Experienced fresh N.E. wind to New Plymouth, thence thence to Wellington northerly and westerly winds, and from thence light variable winds and moderate weather. The Taupo sails for Dunedin at 4 p.m. to-day.
