The barque Australian Sovereign, Captain Birch, left Newcastle on the Ist at 8 a m. in company with the Hopeful. The wind, which was light N.W., continued till last Saturday, when it shifted to the S.E, Stephen’s Island was sighted on Sunday, 9th. From this point there was light and variable weather to arrival. She anchored oil’Camp Bay on Friday night at 10 p.m. The sea fog was so dense above that no light was seen, though the vessel passed right between the heads and the pilot station and houses at Sumner were distinctly visible. She ran up the harbor and anchored on Saturday, The s.s. Beautiful Star left Port Chalmers at 5.30 p.m, on Friday; hadTo stop four times during the night and take soundings on account of a log so dense that those alt could not see the forward part of the vessel. The fog lifted at 7.30 a.m.; making Timaru at nine same morning discharged 100 tons cargo; left at 7 p.m. same day: arrived at Akaroa at 6.45 am. on Sunday; left 6.50, arriving here at noon yesterday. The following departures took place on Saturday from Auckland: —Phoebe; Leonards, brigantino, for Richmond river; Carisbrooke Castle, ship, for San Francisco; Prince Alfred, barque, for Lyttelton; the Ocean Wave sailed for Levuka; Augusta, brigantine, for the Thames, to load timber for Lyttelton, Another addition has been made to our coasting fleet, the smart ketch XXX was bought by Captain Clarke, of the Annie, on Saturday, and will, we hear, be employed in running between this port and Akaroa and Kaiapoi.
