CRICKET.

The U.C.C.C, played their opening match on Saturday last. The weather at first was all that could be desired, but towards the close of the game the light was very bad. Sides were selected by the secretary and treasurer. The latter winning the toss, elected to go in. This being the first time any play has taken place this season, the form shown was not very good. E. Cotterill, however, played a nice innings, hitting well all round, but at last succumbed to a easy ball from Souter. Parkerson and Deacon also obtained double figures, the former being not out for 18, which includes a 5 and a 4 ; at the fall of the last wicket the total having reached 72. Stevens made a fine catch at mid off with the left hand. The bowling was not very straight. The secretary’s side then went in, but soon lost three wickets. Alpe and Dickinson made a good stand, scoring 13 and 21 respectively. Dickinson hit freely for his runs, a 4 and two 3’s being his best hits. None of the rest obtained double figures, and the innings closed for a total of 63, or nine runs less than their opponents. The following is the score : Treasurer’s Side. E.T.
