Diocesan Choral Association.— A rehearsal of choirs in connection with the above will be held ia St Michael’s Church this evening at 7.30 p.m. Misses Taylor’s Concert.— We remind our readers that the concert given by the Misses Taylor takes place this evening, in the Oddfellows’ Hall. A very attractive programme has been issued.

Ancient Order of Druids. —The adjourned meeting of those favourable to the establishment of a lodge of the Ancient Order of Druids in Christchurch will be held at Warner’s Hotel this evening at eight o’clock.

Telegraphic. The Alhambra is expected to leave Hokitika at 9 a.m. on Friday. Telegrams for the Australian Colonies or Europe, via Java Cable, will be received at the telegraph office for transmission to Hokitika, up till 9 a.m. of the 15th.

Papanui and Styx Goods Shed.— The sheds at above stations erected by the Railway department have already shown the necessity for their requirement. Judging by the use already made of them their erection has proved a very great convenience to the respective districts.

The New Road to Governor’s Bay.— This road has now reached nearly as far as Sandy Bay, and is metalled the whole distance. About forty prisoners are constantly employed upon it, but as some of the cuttings are very deep and heavy, and where the gullies are large embankments will be required and culverts of considerable size, it will be at least six months before the road is completed as far as Corsair Bay. When completed no doubt this road will be a great resort of the people of Lyttelton, as the gradient is easy, and it has opened up a number of little sandy bays suitable for picnics.

Addington Station. —Extensive alterations are now being made to the Addington station. In the first place a triangular platform is being erected 260 ft in length, at that portion of the ground meeting the north and south lines ; this will have rubble facings filled with earth, topped with some of Mr Newton’s fine broken metal. The additions to the present station proper will be 64ft x IGft, consisting of a booking office, ladies’ waiting and ante rooms, a general waiting room, with porters’ and lamp rooms. A verandah, Bft in width, will run along the south side of the building, and the entrance is so arranged that the booking office can be approached from both sides of the platform.

Naturalization. —Letters of naturalization have been issued in favor of Messrs Dharles Ahrens, Oxford, and William Zeizler, Timaru.

Many people do not know the reason why some descriptions of soap, when being used, cause the hands to smart and feel sore. It is simply owing to the imperfect knowledge of some soap boilers, who not being thoroughly acquainted with the ingredients the} are using, do not compound them in a scientific manner, or as is more commonly the case, that manufacturers either try to pass off a spurious adulterated article, or else by using an undue quantity of the cheapest commodities, make one of inferior quality. Wc are aware that the Star Brand Soap is made on the strictest principles of chemical affinity, and that every care is taken by the manufacturers to produce an article possessing the strongest abstergent properties. All persons, whether old colonists or new arrivals, should use the Star Brand Soap, as it is the best in this market. [Advt.]
