Trounce, 10s ; Louis Schmid, also charged with obstructing the police in the execution of their duty, was fined 40s ; Jane MacMahon, also charged with indecent conduct and using obscene language, was fined 40s.

Wilful Destruction of Private Property.—John Gaynor, charged with breaking a window in Mr Brown’s boarding house, Lichfield street, fined 40s, and damage done 10s. Receiving Money by False Pretences. —John Neno was charged with this offence. Inspector Feast said the accused had been arrested at the Railway station on the telegram from Timaru, produced. The accused admitted that he had only last evening arrived from Timaru. Accused expressed a wish to be remanded to Timaru, and his Worship remanded him accordingly. Larceny. —Mary Berry and Emma Berry, two little children, were brought up charged with having stolen some jewellery. Inspector Buckley said the jewellery had been in the house of the children’s mother. The person who it belonged to did not wish to prosecute, but from enquiries made he learnt the children had been very much neglected, and were not sent to school. Perhaps the Bench would think it advisable to send them to the industrial school, as the neighbours did not speak very well of their mother. The mother, who was in Court, said the box was not locked ; she was away from home at work, and she hoped his Worship would not take her children from her. She would try and send them to school for the future. His Worship cautioned her to look better after the children in future, and to take care to send them to school, or they would be placed where they would bo taken care of. Charge dismissed.
