ROAD BOARDS.
RICCARTON. The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Saturday at the office of the Board, Cashel street west. Present —Messrs H. J. Hall (chairman), Nunweek, Patterson, and Stanley. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr Twentyman, pointing out the bad state of the road between the Riccarton road and Miss Lohre’s school. The surveyor stated that the road referred to was private pro perty, and that he had replied to Mr Twentyman accordingly. A letter was received from the Secretary for Public Works, in reply, stating that a vote was taken for widening the railway gates on the Riccarton and Harewood roads, and that the work would be earned out as suggested by the Board. A circular was received from Messrs Fooks and Son, stating that they had commenced business in Hereford street, Christchurch, as licensed surveyors, brokers, &c, and that they were prepared to undertake work for the Board. In accordance with resolution passed at last meeting, the surveyor fur Ashed a list of the most necessary works throughout the district with estimated cost. The Board haying considered the same, resolved that tenders be invited by Saturday, the 2nd October, for the following, viz : —Re-lorming western end of Avon-head road, thirty-seven chains; forming Sawyer’s Arms Junction road; forming Cuddon’s road; metalling Sawyer’s Arms road, ninety chains ; re-form-ing and metalling Highsted’s road; metalling Gardener’s road; metalling Grcssel’s road, forty chains; metalling Harewood and Fendalton Junction road, eighteen chains, and re forming and metalling north side of the Riccarton road from Dean’s gate to the church. The Board directed the surveyor to have the Styx cutting cleared out through the river bed, also to clear the creek through section No 57. After passing accounts for work done, the Board adjourned until Saturday, the 2nd October.
