UNION ROWING CLUB.

The annual general meeting of the Union Rowing Club was held last evening at Warner’s hotel. Mr H. Thomson, vice-commodore of the club, occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. The minutes of the former meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman then called upon the secretary (Mr H. Gain) to read the annual report. The Secretary read the report as follows: — “ Your committee, in presenting the annual report, show as per statement an average number of members, viz., 42, The past season does not call for much comment, the only aquatic event being the pair-oared race, for cups presented by Rev J. O’B. Hcare. These were won by Messrs Wright and Houlihan, in the Una. The treasurer’s statement shows a balance to the credit of the club of £63 10s 7d. In accordance with last meeting held, a tender has been accepted for building a new and more commodious boat shed, to be completed before October Ist, by which time the club will be in possession of every facility for practising. The only requisite now to ensure the success of this club, is for every member individually to attend practise regularly, so as to induce the club to procure new boats. The club have to deplore the loss of their late respected commodore, Mr N. G. Glassford, than whom a more indefatigable member did not exist. It is to be hoped the example set by him will be an incentive to members to endeavor to replace his services. The thanks of the club are due to Mr G. Gould for his kind assistance in enabling the club to procure a new shed.” The statement of accounts was referred to a general meeting, to be held at the boathouse on the second Saturday in October. The election of officers was then proceeded with, when the following gentlemen were elected for the ensuing year :—President— Mr G. Gould; vice-presidents—Hon C. G. Bowen, Messrs W. Montgomery and John Anderson ; commodore—Mr H. H. Hennah ; vice-commodore —Mr H. Thomson ; secretary —Mr J. S. Webb; treasurer—Mr Jameson; custodian—Mr G. E. Barnes (re-elected). The following were elected as the committee for the ensuing year—viz, Messrs Gain, Stewart, Monson, Gunderson, and Sharland.

A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Geo. Gould for his kindness and liberality towards the club. Messrs Thomson and Gain were elected as the representatives of the club at the Central Boating Club. It was mentioned that a tender for the erection of the new shed had been accepted, the building to be completed by Ist October next.

Notice of motion was given for the alteration of the rule referring to entrance fee, by increasing it to one guinea.
