A warrant has been sent after Constable Akain, lately of the Auckland police force, who left by the brig Moa for Newcastle ten days ago, to arrest him on a charge of forging an endorsement of the policesergeant and another to a promissory note. Several other charges are also pending against him.

This was a wonderfully fast race. The Star and King of the West had the lead at the straight, and forced the pa<*e until the Star was compelled to retire. Ladybird then took second place, with Kingfisher close on her girth. King of the West was the first to land in the straight, but Ladybird and Kingfisher were hard upon him, and Calumny and Goldsborough were coming up fast, Benjiroo and Sweetbriar beginning to im prove their position. The two first-mentioned were on terms at the distance, where King of the West cannoned against Ladybird, and for a moment Kingfisher looked like winning, but Calumny, keeping against the rails, caught them a few lengths from home, and won a wonderfully fast race by about a length.
