THE ABOLITION PROPOSALS.

In the statement showing the financial results of the proposals of the Government, as compared with the system of administration by the Provincial Governments, the Canterbury figures are as follows :—Under provincial system the result would be— Bevenue— Total provincial revenue as estimated by the province (including £IOO,OOO to be received out of the proposed harbor works loan £891,458 Capitation allowance 56,319 Total £947,777 Expenditure. Provincial departments and services as estimated by the province £97,457 Education, do 46,905 Land and surveys, do 36,989 Railways' working expenses, d 0... 144,860 Interest on provincial loans ... 42,372 „ railways 40,709 Total £409,292 Balance available for local public works 638,485 Under the proposed system, the result would be : REVENUE. Revenue, as estimated by the province, including £IOO,OOO to be received out of the proposed harbor loan, less amount £28,256 taken over by the colony ... £863,202 From Consolidated revenue for departments 91,482 For Municipalities 9518 For iioad Boards ... 10,138 For outlying districts 5000 Total £979,310 EXPENDITURE.
