SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
BAST CHRISTCHURCH. • The osual fortnightly meeting of the above committee was held last eveuing. PresentMessrs R. D. Thomas (in the chair), Mitchell, Bandstein, Kirk, and Wheeler. The minntes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr B. Mountiort, architect, respecting the additions to the master's house at the Gloucester street school, and forwarding plans of same ; also drawing the attention of the committee to the desirability of adopting a closet system, such as that introduced at the Hospital. Tenders were forwarded for providing school furniture. , Respecting the additions to the master s bouse, , Mr Mitchell, as one of the sub-committee appointed to go over the ground, reported that their opinion was that the old building had better be sold and removed, erecting a new one for the head master's permanent residence at the western end of the site, and that the caretaker's cottage be erected at the eastern end. Mr Bandstein moved—" That the recommendations of the sub-committee be carried out, subject to the approval of the Minister for Education." Mr Kirk seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Messrs Mitchell and Thompson were requested to see the Minister of Education on the subject. The tenders for furniture were then considered, and the tender of Mr Kimbell accepted, subject to the approval of the Minister for Education. The question of the closet accommodation was deferred until next meeting. A letter was read from Mr H. Slater, stating that the Vestry of Holj Trinity, Avonside, would allow the committee to occupy the schoolroom at a rental of £l2O per annum, from month to month. On the motion of Mr Kirk the ofEer of the vestry was accepted. A letter was read from Mr Hill, master of Bingsland school, concerning certain alterations in the staff of the school. It was resolved that Mr Silvester be apSinted to take charge of the school at the usic Hall, in room of Mr Woodford, that gentleman to take the charge of the Avonside school, Mr Ford to proceed to Bingsland. This arrangement to be subject to consultation with Mr Taylor, the head master of the Music Hall, as to Mr Woodford's removal. Mr F. Mould was appointed as pupil teacher at the Bingsland school, in accordance with the recommendation of Mr Hill. .', Two applications from Messrs Willis and Blyth Were received, and ordered to be entered on the application list. The meeting then adjourned.
