The Customs revenue collected on Saturday was
The land sold at the Waste Lands Board yesterday, amounted to 1184 acres realising £23os. It is situated in the following districts:—
Mr H. E. Alport reports that at the Canterbury Sale Yards on Wednesday last the supplies of bota sheep and cattle were very much below average in quantity. Sales of sheep show an improvement. Pat cattle without alteration. Young stores readily saleable at full rates. Business done was as follows Fat merino wethers, light weights, 10s Bd to 11 s 9d, prime quality, 15s ; merino store wethers, 7s 6d; cross-bred fat wethers, 15s 6d to 20s ; do do, 2-tooth, 14s 6d; nearly purebred Leicester wethers, 25s to 30s; do do do, 2-tooth, 203 Cd; cross-bred hoggetts, Os 6d to 10s; do lambs, in low condition, 4i ed; fat heifers and cows, £7 5a to £10 10s; do
steers, £lO 10s. Several pens of fat cattle not sold at auction were placed privately. 3-year-old good quality store steers, £7 2s 6d to £8 2s (id; 18 months to 2-year-old heifers, £llos to £5 10s ; yearlings, £3 2s (id; beef, at auction, 30s to 32s (id per 1001 b ; mutton, 3d to 3*d per lb.
Messrs 11. Matson and Co report on the live, stock market for the week ending August 6th, 1875, as follows:—2l2 head of cattle and 2780 sheep came torward for the week’s supply. There was a moderate attendance of purchasers present, and lor young cattle and sheep there was brisk competition, whilst for fat stock and grown cattle very little briskness was exhibited. In cattle our entries were 15!) head of lat and stores for Messrs Ferguson, M'Laren, Moffatt, Kinley, Tubman, Dickinson, Knight, Jeffrey, Harwood, Wilson, Frame, and others,of which we sold 3!) head fat, at £B, £9, to£1010s; 75 head ot stores at very full rates, the balance being turned out unsold. The quality of the fat cattle yarded was only ordinary. In sheep, our entries were 1669 lor the Hon E. Gray, Messrs Cathcart Wason, R. E. Pitt, P. Grant, Ellis, Taylor, M'Lellan, J. Overton, J. Ueydon, Thomson, and others. AVe sold 22 extra prime long-woolled wethers, at £1 10s; 59 do, at 255; 41 do, at 20s 6d per head for the Hon E. Grey, Hoon Hay; 125 prime cross-bred wethers, at 19s 6d to 20s per head, for Mr P. Grant; 102 cross-breds for Mr John Overton, at 19s and 19s 6d per head ; 183 prime merino wethers, at 15s, for Mr 11. K. Pitt, llokeby; 338 cross-breds at Ms 6d, 197 merino wethers at lls 9d per head, for Mr C. Wason, Corwar; 112 cross-breds at 15s 6d, for Mr Joseph Hcydon; 40 do at 17s 9d, for Mr Thomson; and sundry lines at full rates. Country Sales—On Tuesday last we held a clearing sale of Mr J. H. Doyle’s coaching plant, horses, &c. There was a fair attendance. The horses were exhibited in capital condition, but biddings were slow throughout the sale. We sold horses from £lO to £l6 and £2O to £3O ; coaches, £ls 10s to £52 10s. On Thursday, at wool stores, there was a good entry of sheepskins, hides, and tallow, all of which sold at full rates. Cross-breds, 6s 6d, 68 9d, 7s, 7s Id, 7s 3d each ; merinos, 5s 9d to 6s ; second, 4s 8d to 5s 6d each ; country skins, 4s 6d to 6s Id, and 2s 9d to 4s ; hides, salted, 4£d per lb; green, 4d; calfskins, 6£d per lb; rough fat, 2d to 4Jd per lb.
Mr McGregor, of Akaroa, reports that on Wednesday lust there was a fair attendance of buyers at his sale of the new township of Aylmerton, Akaroa, and that most of the sections were sold, realising prices at the rate of from £foo to £SOO per acre.
