FoUmkkv and Uttuimnii.- ( Miarle.H Brown alias Merrick was brought up on warrant charged with this offence. Detective Bet tington deposed to the arrest of the prisoner in High street on the warrant produced; When arrested prisoner acknowledged the offence, saying that lie was very hard up when he did it. James Denham stated he was storeman to John Henry and Co, Dunsanclel. Recollected prisoner coming to the store on 29th July. He asked for a pair of boots, and said Mr Bailey was going to give him an order for a pair. Came again thenext clay and brought an order purporting to be from Mr Bailey. Samuel Sherard, assistant to Mr Henry, received the order produced from last witness and gave prisoner a pair of Loots on the strength of it. Boots produced are like the pair supplied. Joseph Henry Bailey, lessee of the Dunsandel Hotel, stated that the signature to the order produced was not his, and did not resemble his

writing in the least. Did not authorise prisoner to get a pair of boots from Mr Henry. His Worship said it was a question in his mind as to whether he should send the prisoner for trial or not, but he was content to deal with the case summarily, and would sentence the prisoner to three months imprisonment with hard labour. VAGRANCY. —John Henry Ford was sentenced to three months imprisonment on a charge of this description. Drunkand Disorderly.—Mary Cunningham, an old offender was iiiiod 40s for this offence.
