Melbourne. —The “ Argus” of the 12th inst reports:—ln the import market business to-day has not been marked by anything of importance. A considerable amount of depression still prevails on account of the Sydney failures, and there has been less desire to operate in the market in consequence. Breadstuff's are not active, but though sales are not so readily ejected,we have no change in prices to report. Flour is moving off at £lO 12s 6dlo£lolss. The latter ligure is got lor best brands, sales being reported at the price. Wheat is quoted at 4s lid to 5s- at the last-named rate a small parcel of about 1000 bushels was placed. Oats still meet with considerable favor, line qualities being most in demand. We learn of the quittance of an entire shipment of 1570 bags of milling, per Mary Bauuatyne, at Is Id. Common feeding Tasmanian are also in request. A line of 400 bags was placed at 3s 7d to 3s 7-jd. Maize is selling at 5s 2d. Sugars are firm, and Mauritius sorts are inquired for. We understand that sales to a fair extent have been effected. Candles are coming more into notice. We learn of a line of 650 boxes D. It. O.’s having been taken up for shipment at a full price in bond. Sales of colonial woolpacks lOjlb, from M'Fherson’s factory, are making at 3s 6d. An invoice of bar and rod iron has changed hands at a price supporting late quotations. In dried fruits there is a considerable demand for currants, and we understand that ns much as sgd is now offered for parcels tolaud. Teas are moving off for trade purposes. Sales of very ordinary congous are mentioned at lid, while Is lOd to 2s has been obtained for fine congou. At the timber sales this forenoon nothing of special importance was done. A line of 50.000 ft 6x| T. and G. flooring was sold, all faults, at 7s 9d. One hundred and eighteen packages tobacco were soldpublicly at Bjd to 2s 6d. In liquids we note sales by auction of brandies, when Hennessy’s pale iB6O was placed at 9s 3d, and 1871 at 8s 3d to 8s 3j-d- Martell’s 1870 was quitted at Ss 3d. Otard’s at same time realised 7s Bd. Port wines were disposed of at £23 to £29.
