The brigantine Augusta was towed alongside the ship Rangitiki yesterday morning, and discharged the cargo she brought trom Napier, after which she hauled off' and anchored. Site will be berthed to load produce shortly. The Harbor Steam Company’s s.s. Beautiful Star arrived in harbor yesterday at 10 a.m, from Dunedin, via Timaru. She lett Port Chalmers on Sunday, J line 20th, at 11 a.m; arrived at Timaru at 4 a.m. on Monday; but owing to the heavy surf running, was not able to discharge cargo till Tuesday. Left at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, arriving as above. She sails for South to-day at 1 p.m. The barque Australian Sovereign, Cupt Birch, arrived in harbor on Tuesday at midnight. She left Newcastle on June 12th; experienced light N.W. winds, which lasted till making Cape Egmont on June 19th; thence strong S.E. wind for three days; then light N.W. Passed Cape Campbell on Monday last at 9 p.m.; made Godley Heads on Tuesday at daylight, and arrived as above. The captain reports that he spoke the Kaiuma, Captain Maul, about twenty miles oil' the heads, bound to Mceraki. As customary in all cases relating to shipping matters, namely, wrecks.and collisions at sea, &c, an inquiry was held on Saturday, before the deputy collector of Customs, concerning the recent loss of the ketch William and Mary. Captain Stevens’s evidiEocwas a recapitulation of the facts already published in these coluinus, with one notable exception, namely, that Captain Stevens affirms that during the three days he was exposed to so much privation and suffering he lelt not the slightest pangs of hunger or thirst, and it was not until he was rescued by Captain Renner that be expressed a iWish for a little water to assuage his thirst,— “ New Zealand Times,” June 2 1st. Messrs McMcckan and Co’s s.s Alhambra, Captain Bowden, arrived from Melbourne via the West Coast yesterday at 10.45 a.m, We have to thank Mr Miller, purser, for the report of the passage and our Melbourne exchanges. Left Hobson’s Bay at 2 p.m. on the 12th, and cleared Port Phillip Heads at 5.30 p.m; passed Wilson’s Promontory at 4 a.m, and the bisters at 11.30 a.m next day ; experienced light westerly winds for the first two days, and moderate south and south-west winds and flue weather for the remainder of the voyage ; arrived in Hokitika roadstead at 3 a.m on the 18th. Left at 10.15 a.m, and arrived oil - Greymouth at 12.30 p.m. Left at 1 p.m, with strong south and south-east winds, arrived at Nelson at 11.30 a.m on the 19th. The fine clipper barque Mary Blair, 328 tons, Captain Carson, arrived in harbor early yesterday morning Irom Newcastle, N.S.W., after a fine passage of ten days, with a cargo of coal consisting of -190 tons, which is consigned to Langdown and Co. Site reports leaving Newcastle on 12th inst. Experienccd variable westerly winds to the 17th ; after which a S.E. gale was encountered, which lastedfor three days; sighted Cape Egmout on 19th at daylight; outlie 20th, at 7 a.m., passed through the Straits ; Cape Campbell was passed at 1 p.m. last Monday, arriving as above. The Mary Blair is a line clipper barque, built by Messrs John Uuthie and Sou, of Aberdeen, to the order of Messrs Fraser and Co, of Sydney, expressly for the China trade, which trade site has almost been exclusively engaged in. She has been purchased by Messrs Bullion and Dowdell, of Hobart Town.
