Pigeon Bay. —On Monday last a return cricket match between the married and single men took place. The married men went in first, and retired after making a score of 59. Coward, Esq, coroner, on the body of an old man named Charles Wedge, who had been found lying dead in a deep ditch, containing about seven inches of water, in Salisbury street East, on Thursday morning From the evidence it appeared that deceased was subject to fits, and had last been seen alive on Wednesday evening, at twenty minutes past eight. Dr Doyle, who made the post mortem examination, stated that death was caused from drowning. From what he had heard, he believed the man had had a fit before falling into the ditch; but there was nothing in the examination to show that such had been the case. The Jury found a verdict of “ Found drowned.”
