CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, May 25. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M.] Vagrancy.—Emily Hyde was charged with vagrancy. It appeared that the defendant was given into custody by Mr Allen, of Kilmore street east, as she was on his premises, and had no place to go to. She was a newly-arrived immigrant and had no friends, and as Mr March, the immigration officer, said he would take charge of her, she was discharged, the Resident Magistrate requesting to be informed from time to time how she was getting on. Drunk whilst in Charge of a Vehicle. —John Nankerville was charged with being drunk whilst in charge of a horse and cart on Saturday evening in Colombo street, and was fined 10s. Jacob Cox, who was drunk whilst in charge of a horse and cart last evening at Fendaltown bridge, and had tied the horse and cart across the bridge whilst he lay in a drunken sleep beside them, was fined 20s. Threatening to Shoot.—James Webley was charged with threatening to shoot. It appeared that the defendant was in the Carlton Hotel ; he was excited with drink, and commenced loading a gun, saying that he would shoot somebody; he was consequently given into custody. The prisoner was discharged with a caution. Drunkenness. —The following inebriates were dealt with : —John Wilson, fined 5s ; George Hendley, fined ss; John Chunce, lined os ; Thomas Russell, fined ss.
