In the Court of Appeal to-day judgment was given in the case Patterson v MaDdeville and Kangiora Road Board, the case being an appeal from the decision of the Judge deciding that the Resident Magistrate had no jurisdiction in the case in which Boards were sued. The Court reversed that decision. In the case Henty v Holt, an action against the manager of a bank for false and fraudulent representations, whereby plaintiffs were induced to alter their position to their own detriment, the judgment of the Court below, allowing demurrer with costs, was overruled, but without coats of appeal, leave being given defendants to plead within a month. The Tribune says that the Governor and all the members of the General Government are expected to be in town by the middle of next week. McLean has severely sprained his ankle, but he expects to be able to leave Napier by the first steamer. The Cabinet will then fix their programme for next session. The petition of Mr H. Smythies for readmission to the bar could not be heard by the judges to-day. It requires to be heard by a full court of at least three judges, and Justice Gillies was obliged to leave for the North to-day. The petition will have to stand over until a full court can be held. This will be probably in Ohristchurch. Bluff, May 20.
Arrived—Whaling barque Chance, with 36 tons sperm, thin with 47 tons sperm elephant oil previously landed, makes a total of 83 tons for a nine months cruise.
