May 9—Taranaki, s.s, 299 tons, Mundle, for North. The s.s Taranaki arrived in harbor at 8.45 p.m. yesterday, having experienced during the whole passage a terrific gale from the N.E. Lett Dunedin at 1.45 p.m. on Saturday, She sailed for North at 10.30 p.m. Captain Woods informs ns that the barque Italy led well up the coast after her departure on Friday last, the wind being fresh from the S.E. Captain Bradshaw, of the schooner Pacific, reports that he arrived here yesterday morning. The Pacific is bound to Timaru, and is from Pelorus Sound, but put in here wind bound. She left the Sound on May 3rd at 7.30 p.m., but at midnight experienced strong S.E. gale, and ran under shelter of Mann Island. Got under weigh again on the sth, the breeze being northerly, and at 11.30 p,m. was off Cape Campbell. From that time till the Bth had calm weather, but at 3 a.m. that morning a Iresh N.E. breeze sprang up, which drew during the day to E.B.E. with very heavy sea; at 6 p.m. bore away tor Lyttelton, arriving as above. The New Zealand Steam Shipping Company’s s.s, Wellington, Captain Carey commander, left Onehunga at 3.45 p.m. on the 2nd, and anchored inside the Heads at 6 p.m. as the bar was signalled dangerous; got under way at 7 a.m. on the 4th, and passed the bar with a heavy sea running. Passed s.s. Phoebe at 9.15 p.m., and arrived at Taranaki at 6 a.m. on the sth, left again at 1115 a.m., and arrived at Nelson at 6.30 a.m. on the 6th; left same tide at 9.15 a.m., and arrived at Picton at 6 p.m.; left at 7 p.m. and arrived at Wellington at midnight; left Wellington at 4.30 p.m. on Friday, and arrived at this port at noon on Saturday. From Manakau to Nelson had strong S.W. breeze, with heavy beam sea; from Nelson to Wellington S.E. breeze and fine weather, and from thence to this port heavy cross sea and strong north easterly gale, On arrival here, owing to the low tide, was unable to get alongside Screw Pile Jetty for two hours, but transhipped six boxes of gold for the Lady Jocelyn into the s.s. Mullough. 'the major portion ot the cargo, owing to the wet, was carried on, but a portion was discharged. She sailed for south at 5.15 p.m. on Saturday. After two more trips she will be laid up at Auckland to take in new boilers, &c.

The ketch Clematis, Captain Moller, arrived in harbor on Saturday morning at 5 o’clock from Havelock. The captain reports that he left that port at Bpm. on Thursday, April 29th. On Saturday, May 1 st, landed 200 sheep at Ketu Bay, and left on Sunday with light N.W. winds. Passed the Brothers at 9 p.m. the same day, whtn the wind veered round, and blew a heavy gale from the S.E. Kan back, and anchored in Guard’s Bay. Loft there on Tuesday, May 4th, at 8 a.m., with light W. winds, which lasted lor six hours, then light S.E. winds and heavy sea. Passed Cape Campbell at 11 pm. on May sth; from thence light N.VV. winds, which lasted till arriving oil' the Kaikoras, where she was becalmed for forty-eight hours; from thence moderate easterly winds. Made the heads at 4 a.m. on Saturday, as above. Messrs McMeckan and Blackwood’s favorite Melbourne trader the s.s. Albion, Captain Underwood, arrived at 7 a.m. on Saturday. The following is the [report of her passage from Melbourne to Wellington s—Cleared Port Phillip Heads at 5.35 p.m, on the 28th April; passed the Sisters at 10.45 a.m. on the 29th, and arrived off' Hokitika at 12.30 p.m. on the 3rd May, making the run in four days eighteen hours. On Tuesday, 4th May, transhipped part of cargo into s.s. Lioness, and left Hokitika at 8.40 a.m., but meeting the s.s. Waipara midway between that port and Greymouth, transhipped balance of cargo into her, and then resumed her voyage, arriving at Nelson at 8 a.m, on the sth May; left Nelson at 7 p.m. same day; experienced S. and S.S. W. winds with high seas and occasional squalls to Hokitika, from thence light variable breezes and pleasant weather until arriving in Wellington at 7 a.m. on May 6th; left again at 3 p.m. on April 7th; experienced light easterly winds and arrived as above. She sailed for Melbourne via the South at 4.30 p.m. THE LADY JOCELYN, This ship is still in harbor, owing to the heavy N.E. gale. She took on board on Saturday six boxes of gold, brought from Auckland for her by the s.s. Wellington. The gold consists of 64610 z 2dwts, and is valued at £27,500. As the other portion of her cargo is worth about £55,000, this brings Its total to £82,000, a great sum when we consider the large portion of the ship devoted to passengers, of whom there are now more than sixty, Mrs J. D. MT’herson and five children having been added to the list of saloon passengers since the ship cleared, and Messrs Luscombe and Tooue to the steerage. If possible, Captain Jenkins puts to sea to-day.
