THIS DAY’S TELEGRAMS.
Auckland, April 24. Two stacks of hay, valued at £l6O, but uninsured, and belonging to Mr Bovey, farmer at Mangere, were destroyed by fire yesterday. This is doubtless another case of incendiarism. These are becoming alarmingly frequent of late. The Hon. W. H. Reynolds went on a cruise in the Southern Cross yesterday. The vessel was worked by the boys. He expressed great satisfaction with the state of discipline exhibited. Wellington, April 24. It is understood that Mr Vogel will leave London for New Zealand in time to join the mail steamer at Brindisi on the I4th of May. That mail will be due at Wellington on the 9th of July. At latest dates matters were progressing satisfactorily for the San Francisco mail contract; also, for submarine cable to connect New Zealand with New South Wales. Possibly also with Fiji. Extensive alterations are taking place in the House of Representatives. [FROM OUR AUCKLAND CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, April 23. A singular case came before the Supreme Court to-day. An old gardener named Bond conveyed his property to his wife, after many years of living together comfortably. She died first, conveying away by her will all her property to her eldest married daughter, notwithstanding that her husband, then an old man, her son, and several other daughters were still living. Bond to-day applied to set aside the will as illegal, on the ground that the property must pass to the son as heir at law. The decision is not yet given.
