COMMERCIAL.
The Customs revenue collected yesterday was as follows :
Messrs H. Matson and Co held a clearing sale of lire and dead stock on Monday last, at Mr J. Ladbrook's farm, Papanui. There was a large attendance of buyers, and biddings were most animated, the prices obtained being large, those especially for milch cows exceeding by 100 per cent any realised for that description of stock in the province during the last ten or eleven years. The following is a summary of the prices obtained : Young steers, averaging from £5 10s to £8 ss; heifers, with pedigrees, from 18 guineas to 25 guineas; cows, do, from 28 guineas to 40 guineas; milch cows, sold at £l6, £2O, and £22 to £2l. The horses submitted also realised good prices, colts fetching from £2O to £27, two being passed in at do guineas and 70 guineas. The farm implements, machinery, &c, also sold well.
