CITY COUNCIL WORKS.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sir, —Having been a keen observer of the workings of the Christ church City Council, I must say that I think much of their business a complete waste of public money. In. proof hereof I beg to call an inspection of the drain now in course of completion from the Rivei* Avon, along Lichfield street, to corner of Colombo street. This work, sir, I consider from the manner in which it is being put down will be, as I have already stated, a complete failure, and, sir, I am prepared to sink an artesian well at the above junction, having an 8-inch bore, which would produce more water, and at one-half the expense of the Council's drain; and I will not ask to be reimbursed for the same when completed if it does not give general satisfaction. There are many other topics on which I would wish to call the ratepayers attention to, but will reserve my opinion on them until the suitable time. Trusting that you will insert the above, Yours, &c, JAMES O'BRIEN.
