ROAD BOARDS.

HALSWBLL. A meeting of the Halswell Road Board was held on Monday, March Bth. Present — Messrs Gray, Ward, Moffatt, and Culliford. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Letters were read from— The General Government, requesting information of expenditure, See., 1874. Another stating that £llO is appropriated to the district out of the grant. From the Central Board of Health, The clerk was instructed to reply that the general health of the district is good. A petition was presented from a number of ratepayers, requesting the Board to form the road through section 194, The Board resolved that ii cannot comply, as the road is not a public one. Another petition was read requesting the Board to drain the road between sections 494, 1081, and 1592, &c. Resolved that it be attended to. Resolved that tenders be invited for gravelling the tramway drain road, a portion of Cashmere road, and for clearing the River Heathcote from Cashmere to Latter’s bridge, if the Spreydon Road Board will consent to pay one half the cost. Mr Culliford undertcok to pay one half the cost of clearing the drain through sections 1085, and 1105, as it would be an advantage to him as well as draining the road. The surveyor was directed to have the bridge above Lansdowne repaired. The chairman was requested to apply to the Government and request them to accept a tender for forming, &c* the Boon Hay Quarry road; also to urge upon the Government the advisableness of repairing Ward’s Quarry road. Resolved—“ That more hands be employed to put the roads in repair.” Aocoupts to the amount of £l2l 16s were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
