BOROUGH COUNCIL.

KAIAPOI. Tuesday, Makch 9. Theordinary meeting of this Council was held on Tuesday evening last. Present—the Mayor, Ors McDonald, Wearing, Funston, Porter, and Milsom. Letters were read — From Mr D. Craig, secretary of the insurance association, forwarding £25 annual contribution towards maintenance of fire brigade. From the Christchurch City Council, stating it was intended to apply again to the Provincial Council for the auctioneers’ licenses and dog tax, and asking for the cooperation of the Kaiapoi Borough Council. It was resolved —“ That the receipt of the letter be acknowledged, and the City Council be informed that the Kaiapoi Council would use any influence it has to secure the license fees and dog tax. From Secretary for Public Works, relative to the planking taken off the bridge, stating that so much as serviceable was to be used in repairs, and the remainder was the property of the contractor. From the General Assembly sub librarian, asking for a map of the borough. Resolved that a tracing be sent. From the Superintendent, inviting a report for the Board of Health on the sanitary state of the borough. The bank-book showed the balance in hand of the general account to be £152 4s Id. Accounts, viz—Town clerk, £5 5s lid; labor,;£s Is 9d fire brigade, £4 12s 8d; foreman, £4; R. Moore, £2 7s 6d; inspector of boilers, £1; total, £22 6s lOd, were passed. Notice of motion handed in by Cr Blackwell was allowed to lapse, viz—That resolution No 8 of December 15th be rescinded; that is to say—“ Proposed by Cr Funston, seconded by Cr Beharrell —That this Council, knowing it to be impossible to elect any protective works at Kaiapoi, in accordance with the views of the Government, decline to accept the responsibility of carrying out the work, and the clerk forward a copy of this resolution to the Government. Carried. Ayes—The Mayor, Ors Funston, Wearing, Beharrell, and Parnham. No —Cr Blackwell.” The Council then adjourned.
