CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, March 6. (Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., R.M.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. John Johnson, for this offence, was fined ss. ILLEGALLY ON PREMISES. Colin Mackay, charged with being found illegally on the premises of the Warwick Hotel the previous night, was fined 10s. DRUNK AND INDECENCY. John E. Pawsey, who had been before the Court very recently, was charged with the above offence, and fined 20s. EMBEZZLEMENT. KAIAPOI. Friday, March 5. I Before 0. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.J DRUNK AND INCAPABLE. 0. Tarendale, found by Constable Haldane lying on the bridge at midnight on Thursday, was fined 20s and costs. LBESTON. Wednesday, March 3, [Before 0. J. Bridge, Esq, and Rev W. J. G. Bluett, J.Ps.] BURGLARY, f John Montgomery was brought up in custody of the police, charged with having stolen a watch and some money from Spring’s Hotel, Southbridge, on the night of the 2nd February. Sergeant Barlow deposed to the arrest of the prisoner at the Irwell Hotel, on the afternoon of the previous day, and called the following witnesses : J, C. Yoak, barman at the Irwell Hotel, who stated that the prisoner had offered the watch, at present in the hands of the police, for sale to him, and suspecting the same to have been stolen, he detained the prisoner until the police had been communicated with. The evidence of Mr Spring, landlord of the Southbridge Hotel, was likewise taken, which proved that amongst other articles stolen on the night in question was a watch, the number and description of which corresponded with that of the one offered by the prisoner for sale. On the application of the police, the case was adjourned to Friday next, in order that the evidence of the owner of the watch might be produced. LEITHFIELD. Wednesday, March 3. [Before C. Whitefoord, Esq, R.M., W. 0. Tendall, and H. M'llraith, Esqs.] MISCELLANEOUS CHARGES. Mrs Hobden charged John Moore, senr, with having violently assaulted her, he stating that as she had annoyed him and no police were about he intended to take her to the lock up. Fined 10s, and costs, 21s 6d. James Moore charged Mrs Hobden with having threatened to set fire to his house. Case dismissed. Mrs James Moore charged Mrs Hobden with having acted towards her in a manner calculated to provoke a breach of the peace Fined 5s and costs. J. Moore, sen, and Mrs Hobden were then ordered to enter into sureties of £25 each to keep the peace for six months. CATTLE TRESPASS. L. Nielsen and G. Collier were fined 5s and costs for allowing cattle to wander on to the roads. LICENSING COURT, LBITHFIBLD. Wednesday, March 3. [Commissioners—C. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.; W. C. Fendall and H, Mcllraith, Esqs.] REPORT. The police report on licensed houses of the district was satisfactory. extensions. An extension of license to Hastie and Dron, Hurunui Hotel, was granted for a booth on the racecourse and at the hotel. transfer. The Commissioners consented to a temporary transfer of the license of Brown’s Bridge Hotel from Emma Hood to W, A. Benn. LICENSING COURT, ASHBURTON. [Before Messrs Alfred Saunders (Chairman), John Grigg, and H. T. Winter (Commissioners). Mr W. B. Compton applied for an accommodation house license for the Rangitata Ferry Hotel. The same was granted.
